Ko Te Aratika Mātou

Te Aratika means ‘The Right Path’ and we will help you take the ‘right path’ for YOU. Your pathway may be different than others, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that you choose a pathway, which enables you to leave our academy with confidence in yourself and with qualifications to embark on a career of your choosing. Our vision is to support and encourage you on your journey to YOUR success.

At Te Aratika Academy, your learning programme is designed with your graduate profile in mind. A graduate profile describes the skills we expect you to demonstrate when you leave our Academy.

You will be culturally connected, have a positive sense of well-being, and be confident and competent. This means not only will you be ready for work, but also you will have the skills to be a good family and community member, with a strong and positive self esteem

Overview

Founded in Hawkes Bay in 2016 and opened in 2017 as a Partnership School, Te Aratika Academy transitioned to State School with a designated special character in 2019, following a new Government strategy.

We are a boys’ only secondary school for year levels 9-13, catering primarily for Māori/Pasifika taiohi (young people). We embrace the intent of the New Zealand Curriculum, envisaging the realisation of young people as confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners.

Te Aratika Academy has tailored a school curriculum which is underpinned by the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Aho Matua which acknowledges the distinctive characteristics and needs of its taiohi.

We are a designated character kura with a passion to see our taiohi dare to dream.. BIG!

Goals

There are three overarching goals which drive the Te Aratika Marautanga (curriculum)

  1. To meet the unique cultural, academic, physical, social and emotional needs of Māori/Pasifika youth

  2. To partner collaboratively with iwi, hapū, industry partners, schools and tertiary institutions

  3. To provide innovative learning experiences for foundation education; and vocational pathways with a primary focus on infrastructure works and employment opportunities

Our vision is shared across Te Aratika Group
